Tomislav Zajec was born in Zagreb in 1972. He graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Art (ADU), where he is currently employed as an Assistant Professor at the Dramaturgy Department.
He published four novels and four collections of poems so far. He is an author of ten original drama texts. His plays have been performed in Zagreb, Varaždin, Dubrovnik, Ljubljana, Sarajevo, Novi Sad, London, Buenos Aires, Glasgow, Bradford, Norwich, Bucharest, Braila and Ipswich.
Tomislav is an author of two film scripts based on which two films were made: Majka asfalta (Mother of Asphalt) directed by Dalibor Matanić and Trebalo bi prošetati psa (Someone Should Walk the Dog) directed by Filip Peruzović.
Tomislav is a five time winner of Marin Držić state award for dramatic work, as well as other rewards for literary, script and drama work. His novels, plays and poetry have been listed into eight different Croatian literature reviews and anthologies.
Along with being an author of numerous adaptations and dramatizations for Croatian theatres, he has been regularly holding drama and script workshops since 2002.
His works have been translated into English, Hungarian, Polish, Slovenian, German, Spanish, Romanian and Russian languages.
